Safety Officer
ABOUT THE JOB
Marid Industries is seeking an enthusiastic, self-starter to join our team as the Safety Officer. Reporting to the CEO, this is an exciting full-time opportunity for an individual with a minimum five years of experience in the field who is seeking to make an impact through safety.
As the safety officer, you will be primarily responsible for the management and oversight of the company safety program. The safety officer will work with the management team to improve safety in all aspects of the company. The position will provide research, development, and implementation of safety related training initiatives. Travel is required for the position. Given that this critical role involves frequent, daily interactions with people, answering questions related to safety programs, policies and initiatives requests on behalf of employees, the ideal candidate is someone who genuinely enjoys collaboration, is a natural when it comes to building trust and connection and delivering excellent service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works in collaboration with management and employees to implement OH&S program initiatives.
- Reviews all accident, near miss and incident reports; assists in deciphering root cause analysis; identifies trends and follows up on corrective actions with departmental managers and foreman.
- Prepares safe work plans for specific job sites and projects.
- Conducts periodic site-specific inspections and hazard assessments.
- Maintains accurate and organized safety statistical reports.
- Assists with WCB reports and follows up with department managers on injured employees return to work progression.
- Educate management and employees on company safety programs.
- Assists in discipline initiatives where employee non-compliance with safety processes and procedures are not being followed.
- Develops and conducts safety related training programs.
- Conducts company safety orientations.
- Assists management and foreman in investigating accidents and developing measures to prevent
recurrences. - Performs an advisor role to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
- Liaises with external safety representatives, external safety groups, government safety
representatives, safety inspectors, and/or OH&S Department of Labor regulator or investigator.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Have completed training from a recognizable institution.
- Designation of at least one or more of the following: CHSC, CRSP, CHSO, NCSO.
- COR auditor training.
- Friendly and helpful approach with excellent customer service skills.
- Positive and solution-oriented mindset, combined with a genuine eagerness to learn and grow.
- Experience working in the Manufacturing/ Construction/ Steel industry is an asset.
- Has a minimum Class Five driver’s licence.
- Has and can supply a clean drivers abstract upon request.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Ability to work independently.
